Spring comes to Geshaview...

Although Bulgaria had a very harsh winter with temperatures of -20ºC the spring sunshine brings out the greens of the trees coming into leaf.

Good health and luck for the coming year!

On the first day of March and for a while afterwards, Bulgarians exchange and wear white and red tassels or small dolls called "Pizho and Penda". In Bulgarian folklore, Baba Marta (or Grandma March) is a grumpy old lady whose moods change rapidly.

This is an old pagan tradition that remains almost unchanged today. The common belief is that by wearing the red and white colours of the martenitsa people ask Baba Marta for mercy.
The hope is that winter will pass faster and bring spring. A Martenitsa is usually worn pinned on the clothes or tied around the wrist. The tradition calls for wearing the martenitsa until the person sees a blossoming tree.

Some people tie their martenitsa on a branch of a fruit tree, thus giving the tree health and luck, which the person wearing the martenitsa has enjoyed himself while wearing it.

The colours of the martenitsa are interpreted as symbols of purity and life, as well as the need for harmony in Nature and in people's lives.

First Geshaview International Arts Festival a great success...

New look Geshaview website and blog

The Geshaview village web site (and this blog) have been up-dated to reflect that we are now getting ready to position Geshaview for the future – as a holiday destination!

New look Geshaview website.

The first thing you will notice about the new web site is that the focus is no longer on selling property.
Of course, there are still houses and apartments for sale at Geshaview, but the future of the village is in it becoming a holiday destination.
This re-design is very much looking to the future. many of you will be aware that some of the proposed facilities are not available at the moment (this will be fully explained to anyone who enquires about a holiday at Geshaview) but we anticipate that throughout 2011 the village will begin to come alive with visitors.
The next issue of our newsletter will contain a detailed overview of how the website functions, but why not have a look at the new Geshaview website yourself?

Better late than never...

We know, publishing the September/October issue of the Geshaview newsletter in the middle of November is a bit late, but, when you read it you will realise that there are some very good reasons why.
Inside there are articles on David Hollands and his family's move to Geshaview in order to take the village from a building project to the living and breathing entitity envisaged all those years ago, as well as Stephen & Valery Coburn moving to the village to take up their new roles: Valery as the Spiritual Director and Stephen as the International Events Co-ordinator and Wellbeing Director.
As you can see, good reasons for the lateness of this issue!
We also give a brief report on the Dryanovo & Geshaview Orienteering competition which took place at the end of October. A full report with more pictures will be in the next issue.

Summer arrives at Geshaview

Early morning is the time to see the Geshaview village in Bulgaria at its best.
The heat of the sun has yet to burn the dew off the grass, a slight mist still hangs in the air and the only sound to be heard is the birds' dawn chorus.

The trees are now almost in full leaf and provide cool, dappled shade in which to absorb the surroundings.
There really is a feeling of being 'embraced by nature'.

The natural colours of Geshaview

The stones have been carefully preserved and positioned around the village.

With the onset of spring the efforts of the landscaping team at Geshaview are being realised.
The grass is growing, the trees are coming into leaf and Geshaview is showing its true colours.
Because we took such care in preserving the trees and stones they are now providing the village with a true feeling of being embraced by nature.

Even the pathways blend in with the natural colours of the stonework.

Look! No tarmac!!

Work has started on putting the top surface onto the pathways around the village, and not an inch of tarmac in sight!
As the construction of this phase of the village nears completion we can start to put the finishing touches to the landscaping and pedestrian access.

In keeping with the 'car free and eco-friendly' policy of the village the paths are being made with natural materials that are compacted to produce a stable and even surface for walking on.

Geshaview property owners Colin Perry and Pam & Steve Foster visited their house in the village recently and we are pleased to be able to quote a few of their comments.

Geshaview newsletter

The latest issue of the Geshaview newsletter is now available to read in English and Bulgarian. We have combined the March and April issues to create an 8 page information packed issue for you to read.

This month we discuss the design of the Courtyard and how its unique shape will enhance the sound experience for musical recitals, dance festivals and theatrical performances.

We are also proud to be co-hosting the Fifth International Art Festival 'Dryanovo 2010' in conjunction with the Municipality of Dryanovo, the Panev family and Mr George Valev. The festival takes place from 6th - 22nd of May 2010. See page 3 for more information.

Bulgaria is the most attractive country in South Central Europe for investment

Ernst & Young were commissioned by the World Bank to carry out the South Central Europe survey 2009.
The study aims to measure the attractiveness of South Central Europe for Foreign Direct Investment.
The report shows Bulgaria as the top location to establish or develop activities, over the next 3 years.

Page 27 of the report, under the heading 'Confidence for the future: 4 locomotives to pull the region', shows that Bulgaria is ahead of Romania, Croatia and Serbia in attractiveness for future investment.

Autumn colours of Geshaview

The carefully preserved trees around the Geshaview village in Bulgaria are producing a wonderful display of autumn golden browns and ochres.
The pictures, taken by Yana Dimitrova, show that as the village matures and the trees grow you really will be 'living embraced by nature'.
